Reigning La Liga champions Atletico Madrid are reportedly hoping to acquire winger Jesse Lingard this summer from Manchester United.

With countless soccer stars making moves to new teams this summer, it now looks like winger Jesse Lingard could be going from the English Premier League to La Liga. According to 90min’s Toby Cudworth, Atletico Madrid is interested in bringing him in from Manchester United.

Lingard went out on loan to West Ham United last season and was sensational during his time in London, scoring nine goals in 16 appearances. It led to him getting a call back up to the England side by Gareth Southgate. However, Lingard doesn’t appear to be in United’s long-term plans, which could open the door for Atletico Madrid to get something done.

Atletico Madrid is keen on bringing Jesse Lingard to town

For Manchester United, the addition of Jadon Sancho has been the biggest news this summer for the Red Devils. At the same time, it could help facilitate an exit for Lingard if that’s what he’s desiring. Lingard has one year left on his United contract. He’s hoping to find a permanent home and not be loaned out again, per 90min.

With Lingard open to a move abroad too, going to the defending La Liga champions sure could be an interesting move for him. Atletico Madrid stunned everyone in Spain last season, out-battling both Real Madrid and Barcelona to win the title.

With Barcelona being busy this window, Atletico Madrid sure needs to make some moves to try and keep pace with the Catalonian giants. Bringing in Lingard sure would send quite the message to the rest of the league. We’ll see if something gets done and Lingard does end up leaving Manchester United for good.
