After missing out on Malik Hooker, who should the Pittsburgh Steelers look at as other potential options at safety?

There’s not a lot of bad things you can say about the Pittsburgh Steelers defense. Their front seven is legit with T.J. Watt, Cameron Hayward and Devin Bush. The secondary spot is also solid, with Minkah Fitzpatrick leading the charge. However, It would be nice if the Alabama product had more help in the secondary. Unfortunately, the Steelers just missed out on a potential fit in Malik Hooker.

After a second visit with the Dallas Cowboys, all signs point to him signing with the team, barring any unforeseen circumstances. With another safety off the board, what are the Steelers’ remaining options at safety should they wish to sign someone with Hooker’s skill-set? Here are three players that can be potential fits for Pittsburgh.

3. Pittsburgh should look at Kenny Vaccaro

There was a point in time where Kenny Vaccaro was among the best safeties in the NFL. His ability to support the run could be something the Steelers utilize. That’s if they bring him in for a workout and sign him. Now that Malik Hooker is out of the picture, that situation seems a little bit more possible. But there is understood hesitation on Pittsburgh’s side.

Vaccaro hasn’t played well in recent years, and he’s battled various injuries. Those things, along with his age, could make him more of a liability than an asset. On the other hand, when he’s been healthy, he has proven to be a quality safety; maybe he needs to be pair next to another great talent to relieve the pressure.

Kenny Vaccaro could be a cheap option for the Steelers. There’s some risk, but there is also a chance for a great return on their investment.
