Aaron Rodgers says he considered retirement from Packers in offseason
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers spoke to the media on Wednesday and didn’t hold back discussing his issues with the front office.
Aaron Rodgers is back at Green Bay Packers training camp this week, but it turns out he really was close to not making the trip back to Wisconsin. Rodgers spoke to the media on Wednesday and did not hold back whatsoever discussing the offseason drama.
Matter of fact, Rodgers revealed that he was seriously considering retirement due to his issues with general manager Brian Gutekunst and the rest of the front office.
Aaron Rodgers opened up about his beef with the Packers and admitted he nearly retired
Can you imagine if Rodgers would have retired? The fans outside of Lambeau Field would be having a meltdown, calling for Gutekunst either to be fired or step down from his position.
While Rodgers is back in town and throwing the ball around at camp, he did reiterate multiple times that he’s not happy with how things turned out. Over the years, the Packers have parted ways with guys who Rodgers called high-character players in the locker room. He went on to list Clay Matthews, Julius Peppers, John Kuhn, Bryan Bulaga, Jordy Nelson and others.
At the end of the day, Rodgers also made it clear he wants to be in on more of the big-time decisions made by the front office. When Gutekunst revealed earlier this week that he didn’t speak with Rodgers prior to using a first-round pick on Jordan Love, folks couldn’t believe it.
With that said, Rodgers has said multiple times that he has high admiration for Love and he’s got a fantastic relationship with his teammates. Moving forward, though, Gutekunst is going to need to make sure he’s on the same page with the future Hall of Famer.
Otherwise, the issues between the two sides could very well keep going throughout the 2021 campaign.
