Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is officially at training camp and throwing passes to teammates.

If you listened closely enough on Wednesday morning and looked out your window, you may have heard a wind blowing and the trees gently tilting. It wasn’t a summer breeze, it was the collective sigh of relief coming from Packers fans watching Aaron Rodgers officially return to the team for the 2021 season.

Rodgers showed up to Packers training camp on Tuesday, reporting to the team after an offseason in which he threatened retirement over coming back for one more season. The Cold War ended, with massive concessions being made by the Packers, and now Rodgers is back with the team preparing for the upcoming season as though nothing happened.

It’s usually exciting to see players at camp, as it’s the first true sign that a new football season is upon us. But after the offseason Packers fans had to endure, seeing Rodgers in uniform and throwing passes — to Davante Adams, no less — is truly magical.

Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams officially return to Packers

There are sights for sore eyes, and then there’s Packers fans getting their first look at Aaron Rodgers at training camp.

Throughout an offseason of uncertainty, Aaron Rodgers returning to the Packers was a ‘believe it when we see it’ situation.

As the first day of Packers camp officially got underway on Wednesday, seeing was indeed believing.

Aaron Rodgers contract details

Part of the reason Rodgers is back with the Packers is the team made serious concessions with his contract. The Packers reportedly agreed to a few different things to satisfy Rodgers enough to come back:

  1. The last two years of his deal will void
  2. He will become a free agent in 2022
  3. Rodgers will have a say in where he plays after the Packers season is over
  4. Green Bay needed to re-acquire Randall Cobb

All of those things have happened in one form or another. A trade for Cobb was made on Wednesday, and the Packers have a handshake agreement with Rodgers on the rest of the stuff he wanted.

Whether or not they come through is to be determined, but the table has been set for a much softer landing and smoother divorce than what it looked like might happen this offseason.
