The Steelers continue to add Pro Bowl talent on defense with the addition of Joe Schobert, but his introduction could lead to the exits of a few players.

The Pittsburgh Steelers continued to reload defensively Friday night by acquiring former Pro Bowl linebacker Joe Schobert from the Jacksonville Jaguars.

It was a much-needed pickup for the Steelers, who’s linebackers have struggled in pass coverage. While Schobert will be an instant impact player on one of the best defenses in football, his introduction could lead to the departure of these three players:

Steelers: Who might be a roster casualty after trading for Joe Schobert?

1. LB Ulysees Gilbert III

It’s time for Pittsburgh to move on from Ulysees Gilbert. Since joining the team in 2019, he’s been nothing more than a special teams player and reserve linebacker who has gotten limited defensive snaps.

His play in the Steelers’ first two preseason games hasn’t helped his case either. He’s missed multiple tackles and has yet to make any plays that show he is deserving of a spot in the rotation.

With guys like Robert Spillane and Marcus Allen also trying to earn reps, and rookie Buddy Johnson also in the mix, Gilbert could be given his walking papers sooner rather than later.
