Mets GM Zack Scott arrested for drunk driving in latest drama

New York Mets general manager Zack Scott was arrested for drunk driving on Tuesday night, according to the New York Post.

Scott was out past 4 a.m. ET in White Plains, New York, when he was pulled over and questioned by authorities. He refused to give a blood test or submit to a breathalyzer, but failed a field sobriety test.

In a statement, the Mets revealed they were pulling Scott off the road in response to the allegations against him:

“We were surprised and deeply disappointed to learn this morning about an alleged DUI involving Zack Scott. We take this matter very seriously.”

Scott took over for Jared Porter, who was fired in response to sending explicit photos to reporters via text message prior to the season. Whoever is hiring key front office members — presumably Steve Cohen and Sandy Alderson — ought to hire an outside search firm from now on.

New York had been in the midst of a late-season collapse after the trade deadline, highlighted by Javy Baez’s thumbs down celebration, meant to clap back at booing fans. That did not go over well in Queens, but Baez scored the winning run in Game 1 of a doubleheader sweep against the Marlins yesterday.

For 24 hours, all was well with the Mets. And then it wasn’t.
