In a bit of a stunner, New York Mets second baseman Javy Baez revealed that the team’s thumbs down celebration is taking a bit of a shot at the fans.

New York Mets superstar Javier Baez has simply had enough. While the Mets have been struggling and are no longer in first place of the NL East standings, Baez and his teammates are sick and tired of all the hate from the fans.

That much has been made obvious with his new ‘thumbs down’ celebration. On Sunday, it’s been revealed that the thumbs down move is actually a message to fans that the Mets players are sick of getting booed. These guys want respect, plain and simple.

Who in the world saw this coming? Baez didn’t hold back. At the end of the day, he wants folks to remember that he and his teammates are human beings. Yes, they make millions of dollars and live lavish lives, but they don’t want Mets fans to turn on them either.

In their last 10 games, the Mets are 3-7. As things stand, they’re 7.5 games back of the Atlanta Braves for first place in the NL East. Earlier in the year, New York was plugging along just fine and looking like serious players in the NL.

A lot has changed since the spring. With Baez in town and Francisco Lindor healthy, the hope is that New York can end the year on a strong note and potentially sneak into the playoffs. If they do, Baez is ready for all the Mets supporters to cheer their heads off. If they don’t make the postseason, he doesn’t want them to savage the team either.
