Gus Johnson’s call of Haskell Garrett’s scoop and score touchdown caught everyone off guard during Thursday night’s Ohio State-Minnesota game.

College football fans were in for a treat on Thursday night, as they had a full slate of games to watch. Perhaps the top game of the evening took place between the Ohio State Buckeyes and Minnesota Golden Gophers.

Ohio State narrowly held a 24-21 lead towards the end of the third quarter. With Minnesota threatening, quarterback Tanner Morgan fumbled the ball after he was sacked. Defensive tackle Haskell Garrett scooped up the football and returned it 32-yard touchdown, extending the Buckeyes’ lead to 31-21.

FOX Sports’ Gus Johnson was on the call for the game, who screamed “Haskell the Raskell” once Garrett scored the touchdown. After the extra point was made, Garrett reminded the audience that Garrett was “shot in the face last year.”

Gus Johnson’s call of Haskell Garrett’s touchdown caught everyone by surprise

In Aug. 2020, Garrett was shot in the face after he attempted to break up a fight between a man and a woman. As he intervened, the man pulled out a gun and fired at the defensive tackle. Garrett had to undergo multiple surgeries on his mouth.

Garrett played in eight games in the 2020 season, where he tallied 20 total tackles (four for loss), two sacks, one interception, one defended pass and one defensive touchdown.

To start off his 2021 season at Ohio State, Garrett now has a fumble recovery touchdown to his credit.
