Patrick Mahomes gives insightful thoughts on NFL history, Negro Leagues

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes provided insightful answers when talking about the quarterback position heading into the upcoming season.

This upcoming Sunday, Patrick Mahomes enters his fourth season as the starting quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs. Looking to make it to three consecutive Super Bowls, the Chiefs will face off against the Cleveland Browns, a team that almost pulled off an upset in the AFC Divisional Round.

Prior to the start of the 2021 season, Mahomes had an interview with Bob Kendrick, president of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, on the “Black Diamonds” podcast. During said interview, Mahomes discussed how Warren Moon and Doug Williams showed Black quarterbacks can have success in the NFL after not being allowed to showcase their talents due to racism in previous decades.

Not only that, but Mahomes brought up how Satchel Paige’s impact helped pave the way for Mahomes’ father to become an MLB pitcher.

Some insightful commentary from Mahomes in a must-listen interview set to be released on the day of the NFL’s opening game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Dallas Cowboys.

In a short amount of time, Mahomes solidified himself as the face of the NFL. His unreal athleticism and his propensity to pull off magical and impossible plays helped him reach that point. In fact, Mahomes was voted the top player in the league by his colleagues in the NFL’s Top 100 list.

Mahomes is coming off a 2020 campaign in which he threw for 4,740 yards, 38 touchdowns and six interceptions on a 66.3 completion percentage. Once again, the Chiefs enter the upcoming season as the favorites to represent the AFC in Super Bowl LVI.
