Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was voted No. 1 on the NFL Top 100 players list for the first time in his career.

Patrick Mahomes is trying to become the GOAT. For now, he can take heart in being the best player in the NFL, as voted on by his peers.

The NFL Top 100 players list reached its conclusion on Saturday with the reveal of the Top 10 players in football going into the 2021 season. The players voted Mahomes No. 1.

“It’s really cool because it’s voted by a lot of your peers, the guys that you play against and play with,” Mahomes said. “So for those guys to vote for me to be the No. 1 player is definitely an honor.”

NFL players agree Patrick Mahomes is the best in the league

Mahomes beat out No. 2 Aaron Donald for that honor, while Aaron Rodgers took an even bigger leap up to No. 3 after ranking No. 16 in 2020. Derrick Henry and Travis Kelce rounded out the Top 5.

Last year Mahomes was No. 4 behind Lamar Jackson, Russell Wilson and Donald in that order. He took the big step this year thanks to his consistently high-level play. While leading the Chiefs to their second straight Super Bowl appearance, Mahomes completed a career-best 66.3 percent of his passes with 4,740 yards and 38 touchdowns.

It’s never easy being on the top of the hill, with everyone gunning for you. Mahomes will face immense pressure as he tries to bring his team back to the Super Bowl for a third time. Winning it this time and making up for last year’s disappointment is priority No. 1.

Of course, there are more individual awards to seek. Mahomes was the league MVP in 2018. He’ll be the front runner this year with plenty of competition also vying for the crown at the end of the season.
