Now a free agent, Cam Newton insists his career is far from over — which is why the Pittsburgh Steelers should give him a call immediately.

Cam Newton kept it funky this past Friday, releasing a candid tell-all video that details his perception of his recent New England release.

Newton sat down with his father, Cecil, as the two discussed his experience with the New England Patriots, what it was like to get cut, and his future in the NFL.

Newton also indulged in the real reason he was released in favor of rookie quarterback Mac Jones.

One team that’s been considered a potential destination for Newton has been the Pittsburgh Steelers. Although speculation swirls, Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster insists that there are “no talks” about welcoming Newton into their locker room.

Cam Newton would make plenty of sense for the Steelers

“For myself and our locker room, there’s no talks about that,” Smith-Schuster told PFT following Newton’s release.

While Newton makes it clear he’s QB1 material, he did say that he’s open to playing backup if asked. And in Pittsburgh, he likely wouldn’t play backup for long, as Ben Roethlisberger is expected to retire at the end of the 2021 season.

If Newton does end up in black and yellow, he would serve as a skilled backup in case Roethlisberger suffers injury and would give the franchise a buffer as they find a future franchise face. After all, that’s exactly what New England did in giving Newton a one-year try-it deal last season until they lucked out in their Mac Jones selection.

With Cam Newton in the pocket, the Steelers would relieve a great deal of stress heading into 2022 as they head into next year with the 2015 NFL MVP and NFC champion.
