San Francisco 49ers fans fiercely debate over whether the team should move on from quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and No. 3 NFL Draft pick Trey Lance.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo may have just redeemed himself with an end-of-half touchdown pass that puts the 49ers ahead of the Philadelphia Eagles with 7-3, but 49ers fans have been calling for his head for the entire first half.

On Twitter, “Jimmy Garoppolo” has been trending all game — and not in a good way.

IMO, the misses on the out to Sanu and Aiyuk off play action is why the 49ers have flirted with every available QB over the last 2 years. It’s not about injuries. Jimmy G has to be able to make those throws, and throughout his career he’s been consistently inconsistent with them.

Jimmy G is due for an INT. Preferably to Darius Slay.

Jimmy G. Is awesome! Trey Lance needs to plant his butt on the bench and learn!!!*

If this was a baseball game - the bullpen would already be up. Jimmy G gonna get yanked soon if this doesn’t change

Defense good or Jimmy G bad?

Pull the plug. Jimmy G playing like an undrafted rookie.

Jimmy G costing the offense. Two remedial throws killing drives.

Jimmy G has stunk so far, but it doesn't help the QB when your o-line is getting punked.

Pressure makes QB's jittery, and right now Jimmy G is a jittery quarterback. #49ers
49ers fans are already sick of Jimmy Garoppolo in Week 2
Despite the virtual vitriol hurled at the eight-year quarterback, there were plenty of 49ers fans who believed his last-minute touchdown redeemed him of his inconsistent play.
Started out sketch but a very composed TD drive from Jimmy G. No idea how the Niners aren’t down 10+. I’m fired up.

Honestly think this throw saved Jimmy G from getting benched at halftime. https://t.co/nJAWOUq5ac

Jimmy G 70 percent (14 of 20) for 137 yards, TD in first half. Please stop the hating.

In the first half, Garoppolo completed 14-of-20 passes for 137 yards and a touchdown, giving him a passer rating of 105.6. Garoppolo also has the most rushing yards on the team with 13 yards on three carries, a better performance than Elijah Mitchell.
However, as 49ers Twitter makes clear, Garoppolo’s stats don’t tell the whole story.

If last week is any indication, head coach Kyle Shanahan could easily swap Garoppolo for Lance if the former continues to play poorly. As Braulio Perez wrote for FanSided last week, Shanahan turned to Lance and was rewarded with a touchdown.
“After Jimmy Garoppolo struggled to begin play, Kyle Shanahan wasted no time in going to Lance. The rookie rewarded his head coach by giving his team a 7-0 lead thanks to this touchdown pass to Trent Sherfield.”
While Garoppolo may have redeemed himself at the moment, his trending status proves that 49ers Nation is just about done with Jimmy G.
