Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Diontae Johnson hurt his knee on the last play of the team’s home loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.

You know the saying about adding insult to injury? It turned literal for the Pittsburgh Steelers as they fell to the Raiders at home.

Lead wide receiver Diontae Johnson went down injured on the meaningless final play of the game as he tried and failed to get to the sideline.

The 26-17 ended with Johnson clutching his knee.

Diontae Johnson injury update: Steelers evaluating knee injury

After the game, head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed the receiver suffered a knee injury but the team is still evaluating the severity, per Doug Kyed of Pro Football Focus.

Johnson’s injury comes when Pittsburgh is already dealing with a couple of other concerning injuries on defense. Star linebacker T.J. Watt had to come out early against Las Vegas because of a groin injury. The team already needed to hold their breath on his status going forward. They can add Johnson to the worry.

The injury news was even worse for nose tackle Tyson Alualu. Tomlin said he broke his ankle and will miss extensive time.

Losing the home opener to the Raiders would have been bad enough without adding the potential long-term health concerns to critical players.

Johnson led the team with nine catches for 105 yards on Sunday. He had five catches for 36 yards and a touchdown in Week 1 against the Bills.

Time will tell if he’ll be able to suit up against the Bengals next weekend.
