Philadelphia Eagles fans are furious after the refs missed a clear delay of game penalty late in the loss against the San Francisco 49ers.

The Philadelphia Eagles suffered a disappointing 17-11 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, but fans are downright furious as they feel the team had a chance to potentially win things late taken from them.

With around 2:30 left in this one, San Francisco was facing 3rd-and-1 from deep in its own territory. The play clock clearly went down to zero, meaning a flag should have been called for a delay of game. Except the laundry never hit the field and the 49ers converted on a quarterback sneak moments later. Just brutal.

A delay of game should have been called late in the Eagles-49ers game

With that penalty, it should have been 3rd-and-6, but instead San Francisco was able to take advantage of the blown call and get themselves a first down. While it’s impossible to say the Philadelphia defense would have stopped San Francisco had a flag been thrown, it sure would have made things much more difficult for Jimmy Garoppolo.

Had the Eagles forced a punt in this situation, Jalen Hurts would have gotten the ball back with a chance to record a thrilling come-from-behind victory. Unfortunately for him, the officials missed the call and San Francisco was able to leave the stadium with a close win.

With Eagles fans being among the most passionate groups out there, you already know they’re taking to social media to voice how angry they are with the refs. This was clearly a delay of game that needed to be called. Now, we’ll never know what Hurts might have been able to get done late in this showdown had he gotten the ball back.
