College football upset picks Week 6: Ohio State and 5 teams on upset alert
Making college football upset picks for Week 6 of the 2021 season with Ohio State, Oklahoma and several more highly ranked teams getting put on upset alert.
It’s getting a bit ridiculous at this point. Just when you think that the college football upsets might slightly slow up in terms of pace, UCLA and Fresno State cap off last week by getting knocked off. The upsets keep rolling and that sets the stage for even more in Week 6 of the 2021 season. And there are plenty of chances.
While two of the marquee games of Week 6, Ole Miss-Arkansas and Penn State-Iowa, feature two too closely-ranked teams to qualify as an upset, there are two SEC games that could but won’t be featured in our college football upset picks. When you look at Texas A&M-Alabama and Georgia-Auburn, the fact of the matter is that the Aggies and Tigers, respectively, have done nothing to indicate they can hang with the two best teams in college football.
Shoutout to Kentucky and Wake Forest as they could be in tricky spots in Week 6 as well but also just missed the cut. With that, let’s put these five teams on college football upset alert this week.

College football upset pick No. 5: Oklahoma Sooners
Rank: 6 | Opponent: 21 Texas Longhorns (Neutral Site) | Time: Saturday, Oct. 9, Noon ET
Oklahoma finally looked much more akin to the Sooners we expected coming into the 2021 season last week, going on the road to Manhattan and withstanding a strong challenge from Kansas State. Spencer Rattler looked arguably the best he has all season and the defense came up with enough stops.
But now it’s Red River Rivalry time and Lincoln Riley’s team heads to the Cotton Bowl to face their most hated foes, the Texas Longhorns. And the sneaky truth about Steve Sarkisian’s team is that they are being highly undervalued in the rankings given that their one loss came to an Arkansas team that, when healthy, looks like the third-best team in the SEC.

Rattler and the Sooners offense have been hot-and-cold all season long. Now, the Longhorns defense is troublingly bad this season, it has to be said. But Oklahoma has simply seemed susceptible to playing down to opponents when they have the ball this year, which is why they’ve dropped in the rankings despite not losing.
More importantly, this will be the biggest test yet for the Oklahoma defense. That unit is admittedly much better than in years past but Bijan Robinson looks downright unstoppable for Texas right now. If he keeps running amok, that could help the Longhorns to pull off a huge upset and claim control of the Big 12 from their heated rivals.
