The Auburn Tigers take on the Georgia Bulldogs in the Deep SouthāsĀ Oldest Rivalry annually.
Despite not being each schoolās primary rival, the one existing between the Auburn Tigers and the Georgia Bulldogs is one of the very best college football has to offer.
Known as the Deep Southās Oldest Rivalry, Auburn and Georgia have faced off a staggering 125 times. They have played annually since 1944, including twice in 2017. While Auburn considers Alabama its biggest rival and Georgia deems Florida its biggest foe, this is the best rivalry between No. 2ās in all of college football. It is these two schools cross-divisional game they play every year.
So with the Dawgs heading to The Plains on Saturday, what is the all-time head-to-head record between the two SEC powers? How have the last 10 years gone in this rivalry? And who is expected to win on Saturday?
Deep Southās Oldest Rivalry: Auburn vs. Georgia all-time record
Entering the 2021 game, Georgia holds a slight 61-56-8 lead over Auburn all time. The Dawgs have won the four previous meetings, including the 2017 SEC Championship game. The last time Auburn won was earlier that season, as the Tigers crushed the Dawgs to the tune of 40-17 to hand Georgia its first loss of the season. However, Georgia has dominated this rivalry of late.
In the last 10 seasons, Georgia has gone 9-2 against Auburn. The Tigersā only two wins over the Dawgs during that span came in 2017 and the Prayer at Jordan-Hare game in 2013. Auburn also won in 2010 during Cam Newtonās Heisman Trophy campaign en route to a perfect national championship-winning season. The problem for Auburn is the Tigers simply cannot win in Athens.
While Saturdayās game is in Auburn, the Tigers have not won in Athens since 2005. Since the Mark Richt era (2001-15), Auburn has won in the Classic City just twice, posting a 2-8 record at Georgia and a 2-9 record outside of games played at Jordan-Hare. Right here is why Georgia has taken a moderately decent lead over the Tigers in the all-time series. It had been very close until recently.
As far as who has the edge on Saturday, the Dawgs are a massive road favorite over the Tigers. According to WynnBET, the Tigers are getting a whopping 15.5 points from the visiting Bulldogs in this high-profile rivalry game. The associated moneylines are Georgia -800 and Auburn +500. This gameās over/under comes in at a combined 47.5 points. The bookmakers expect a Georgia win.
Though we have seen crazier things happen in this rivalry series before, the Dawgs are the No. 2 team in the country for a reason. They have the best defense in football and have recruited marvelously under head coach Kirby Smart. As far as the Tigers, they have shown signs of life under new head coach Bryan Harsin, but again, this is his first year taking over for Gus Malzahn.
The Dawgs should get to 6-0 by Saturday night, but the Tigers have upset on their minds as well.
