Ben Simmons will not play in the Philadelphia 76ers’ 2021-22 NBA season opener at the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday night.

With the 2021-22 NBA season officially tipping off on Tuesday night, the Philadelphia 76ers will not have All-Star Ben Simmons available on Wednesday night vs. the New Orleans Pelicans.

It has been a long and tiresome offseason for the 76ers and one of their star players. Simmons may have been a former No. 1 overall pick by Philadelphia out of LSU, but he is quickly wearing out his welcome in the City of Brotherly Love. The fact he has not been traded up to this point is beyond anyone who follows the league closely. His days with the 76ers are clearly numbered.

So why is Simmons being held out of the 76ers’ season opener vs. the Pelicans on Wednesday?

Ben Simmons: Why is he not playing the season opener for the 76ers?

Simmons has been suspended by the 76ers for conduct detrimental to the team. It was not what he said, but more about his attitude and the actions he displayed during practice. The 76ers’ other superstar player Joel Embiid did not beat around the bush when addressing what is going on with Simmons these days. This situation has become untenable and something’s got to give.

Simmons will not play on Wednesday night because he has been suspended by the 76ers.
