The 1-5 New York Jets will host the 5-2 Cincinnati Bengals at Met Life Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Oct. 31 at 1:00 pm ET.
Before the 2021 NFL season began, a Week 8 game between the Cincinnati Bengals and New York Jets may have seemed like a competitive match.
But the Bengals have shocked the league, claiming five victories in seven games and leading the most competitive division in the AFC, the AFC North. Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has delivered for the past seven weeks, scoring 17 touchdowns, throwing eight interceptions and averaging a 108.9 passer rating. The Burrow connection with former LSU teammate Ja’Marr Chase has worked wonders for the Bengals offense. The rookie wideout has already earned his own trophy case with the team, nabbing six trophies in only seven weeks: four Rookie of the Week trophies, an Offensive Player of the Week trophy and a Nickelodeon MVP trophy for Week 7.

Meanwhile, the investment in No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson has yet to pan out, and news that Wilson will be sidelined for 2-4 weeks with a sprained PCL only makes the team’s outlook even more dire. Although the team is slated to start Mike White in Week 8, they just traded for longtime Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco.
The Jets are coming off a brutal 13-54 loss to the New England Patriots, and their home field advantage in Week 8 isn’t expected to do them any favors.
For these two troubled franchises, only one has emerged a true playoff contender — and it isn’t the Yets.
