Georgia football coach Kirby Smart suspended linebacker Adam Anderson amid a rape allegation against the NFL Draft prospect.

Anderson is reportedly considered a future first-round NFL Draft pick.

All was well in Athens until this week, with the Georgia Bulldogs ranked No. 1 in the first College Football Playoff rankings. Yet, Anderson’s ongoing investigation and suspension is undoubtedly a hit to the best defense in the country.

With Anderson under investigation, Smart has elected to keep him away from the team for the time being.

“We are aware of the report and we don’t comment on law enforcement matters, but I’ve been clear about the high standards we have for our student-athletes on and off the field,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said in a statement. “I will be working closely with our administration to ensure we cooperate fully with all law enforcement and campus protocols.“

Georgia plays Missouri this weekend.

Georgia football: Adam Anderson under investigation for alleged rape

The rape, which per a police report took place on Friday, Oct. 29, involved Anderson performing alleged non-consensual sex at an Athens residence. The victim claimed she went to have a few drinks, fell asleep, and awoke to Anderson penetrating her. She reported the incident the very next day.

Anderson played in Georgia’s game against Florida that weekend, but the events hadn’t been made aware to Smart or the Bulldogs program at that point.

Anderson leads Georgia with five sacks, and is second on the team with 5.5 tackles for loss on the season. Neither the player nor his attorney have responded to the media’s request for comment at this time.
