5 potential transfer destinations for JT Daniels if he leaves Georgia
By Ethan Lee
Will JT Daniels stick around with the Georgia Bulldogs if Kirby Smart keeps the talented quarterback on the bench or will he look to transfer again?
JT Daniels may be one of the most talented quarterbacks in the country, but none of that matters if he can’t make it onto the field. When Daniels transferred from the USC Trojans to the Georgia Bulldogs, it appeared as if he was set to be the focal point of the Bulldogs’ offense.
Unfortunately for Daniels, injuries have kept him on the sideline and even though Daniels has warmed up a few times and has appeared possibly ready to go, Georgia isn’t playing him. That’s because the Bulldogs have found a more than qualified replacement for him in Stetson Bennett.
While Bennett hasn’t been perfect and doesn’t appear to have the arm talent that Daniels has, he’s apparently been good enough to keep Georgia head coach Kirby Smart happy with him being on the field.
Bennett is a senior and his graduation could pave the way for Daniels to receive more playing time next year. But will Daniels be willing to stick around for another season in Athens, or will he once again look to find a new place to play and enter the transfer portal?
Should he decide to play elsewhere, here are five schools he could consider.
5 schools JT Daniels should consider if he wants to transfer from Georgia
5. San Jose State Spartans are an option to bring JT Daniels back to California
The San Jose Spartans have trusted a transfer quarterback before as Nick Starkel, a former Texas A&M Aggie and Arkansas Razorback, made his way to out west. The Spartans don’t throw the ball around all that often, but Daniels is from California and this team would almost certainly welcome a quarterback as talented as him with open arms.
4. SMU Mustangs could use JT Daniels to run the offense
Sonny Dykes has thrived with the SMU Mustangs and one key reason for his impressive success is the way he keeps courting transfer quarterbacks. Would Daniels be interested in playing in Dykes‘ quarterback-friendly, Air Raid-inspired offense? Some of that depends on if he would even have a chance as current Mustangs quarterback Tanner Mordecai will still have some eligibility left after this season should he choose to play a little while longer. It also depends on if Dykes is still in Dallas next season as he could be a head coach elsewhere next year.
