JT Daniels was supposed to be the guy for Georgia football this year but the former five-star recruit and Heisman candidate may want to transfer instead.

It was supposed to be a big year for Georgia quarterback JT Daniels. The USC transfer was healthy and in line to be the starting quarterback for a team with national championship aspirations. It all started out well with a win over Clemson but then Daniels got hurt and lost his job to Stetson Bennett.

Georgia football coach Kirby Smart has been slow to bring Daniels back to the field due to injuries but also because of the play of Bennett who shows no signs of giving his job back. Bennett, a former walk-on, has been dismissed his whole career. Even this year, there are those who think Bennett is good enough to win the SEC but for Georgia to win it all, Smart will have to turn the offense back to Daniels.

Will JT Daniels transfer from Georgia?

But what if that doesn’t happen and it’s Bennett’s job all year? That could lead Daniels to explore the transfer portal for the second time in his career and find a new home. Daniels has had an up-and-down career but hasn’t come close to living up to the five-star status and No. 1 quarterback recruit coming out of Mater Dei High School in California. Injuries have played a big part, but if Daniels wants another fresh start, he’ll have options, but likely not at programs like Georgia or even at USC’s level.

What year is JT Daniels?

Daniels began his college career at USC in 2018. He took a redshirt year in 2019 after injuring his ACL in the season-opener. He transferred to Georgia in 2020, which due to COVID, gave students a free year of eligibility. So, Daniels has three years of eligibility remaining if he wants to exhaust his time on a college campus. He’s also draft-eligible.

Is JT Daniels injured?

Daniels has battled injury throughout his college career dating back to his time at USC. He lost his job to Bennett because of an injury and when it looked like he’d get it back, he suffered another one. He’s healthy enough to play but Bennett has a stranglehold on the job.
