The Oklahoma Sooners fell flat on their faces against the Baylor Bears. Who is most responsible for the humbling road loss?

As the Oklahoma Sooners stumbled on the road against the Baylor Bears in the form of a 27-14 loss, several members of Oklahoma’s team fell short more than others. The entirety of Oklahoma underperformed Saturday afternoon, and it’s clear that the who team should share some blame, but some deserve a little more criticism than others.

Oklahoma’s offense was atrocious and, unfortunately for the Sooners, its defense was particularly bad at stopping the run. So, who is responsible for that?

Which three Sooners should share more blame than most for this loss?

Oklahoma coaches, players carrying the most blame for loss to Baylor Bears

3. Alex Grinch – Oklahoma defensive coordinator

The Sooners’ defense definitely performed better than Oklahoma’s offense did, but Alex Grinch deserves plenty of criticism for how the Bears ran over, around, and through his defense Saturday. The Bears gashed the Sooners for 296 yards off of 47 carries and it appears as if Grinch did not have Oklahoma prepared for this sort of attack.

2. Caleb Williams – Oklahoma quarterback

Oklahoma’s had some unusual struggles at quarterback this season and Caleb Williams just played the worst game of his career. Williams completed just 10-of-19 passes for 146 yards while throwing two interceptions. He looked completely lost and the Sooners struggled mightily on offense as a result. He was replaced by Spencer Rattler in the second half and looked just as bad, so that’s even more reason to blame the No. 1 person on the list.

1.  Lincoln Riley – Oklahoma head coach

At the end of the day, the head coach should take most of the blame for any loss his team suffers, and that’s certainly the case here with Lincoln Riley. Oklahoma has been playing in close games against all sorts of competition all year and it finally caught up to the Sooners today. Riley’s offense failed to gain yards or put points on the board. His quarterbacks continue to struggle. His team falling short is ultimately his fault. Riley is a good coach, but this year hasn’t been his best year.
