Facing an upset alert from Baylor, Oklahoma fans started to chant for Spencer Rattler to replace Caleb Williams at quarterback.

The quarterback controversy for Oklahoma football simply won’t go away.

Caleb Williams looked like the savior for the Sooners after replacing incumbent starter Spencer Rattler. However, his struggles against Baylor had fans calling for the starter-turned-backup to take back over at quarterback.

There were actual chants coming from the stands.

While there was speculation it might have been Baylor fans who started the chant, Oklahoma beat writer Jason Kersey of The Athletic heard it from Sooners fans.

Those fans were the only ones questioning whetherLincoln Riley should make a quarterback change.

The people asking for Rattler to replace Williams got their wish near the end of the third quarter. Rattler came in with the opportunity to produce some fourth-quarter heroics. Rattler almost completed a long pass on his first play but it was incomplete and pass interference probably should have been called.

Williams was 8-of-17 for 84 yards and two interceptions. There was a health argument for taking him out. Just before halftime, he had his right hand stepped on by a Baylor defender. He was still able to throw the ball but he might have been affected. The Baylor defense has been a problem for Oklahoma all game and leads 17-7 in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter.

It’s up to Rattler to keep the perfect season alive.
