Skip Bayless was not pleased by Oklahoma football coach Lincoln Riley benching a struggling Caleb Williams for Spencer Rattler.
Skip Bayless is not happy with Lincoln Riley’s decision to swap Caleb Williams for Spencer Rattler during Oklahoma’s game vs. Baylor.
With the No. 8 Sooners trailing against Bears in Waco, Riley made the decision to bench Williams, who had been struggling in the game, in favor of Rattler, who lost his job to Williams due to poor performance. Williams may have been dealing with a hand injury after he was stepped on after a long run in the first half.
Also, during the game, there were chants toward the Sooner bench to replace Williams with Rattler. Needless to say, Bayless, a Sooner fan, was less than thrilled and referred to it as the mistake of the year.
WRONG WRONG WRONG. Lincoln Riley just made the mistake of the year, replacing a struggling Caleb Williams with preseason Heisman favorite Spencer Rattler. So much for Caleb's Heisman chances. I believe he would've snapped out of it in the 4th quarter. Caleb>>>>>>>Rattler.

Skip Bayless reacts to Lincoln Riley benching Caleb Williams for Spencer Rattler
Bayless said that Williams would have snapped out of his slump in the fourth quarter had he still been playing, but that was likely not going to happen given how his day was going. Moreover, the entire team has struggled against a great Baylor defense.
Prior to his benching, Williams went 8-of-17 for 84 yards and two interceptions and no touchdowns. Bayless tweeted benching Williams was admitting the game was over.
Caleb Williams suffered three drops in the 1st half, and got his throwing hand stepped on. Maybe his hand was bothering him some in the 2nd half, but he has been such a clutch playmaker that you can't give up on him this quickly. That's it. Baylor wins.

History has shown that each time Oklahoma was involved in the College Football Playoff, they were sent home after one game despite their regular-season success. They may still get there should they lose to Baylor, but they are going to need a lot of help. It’s unlikely, but not impossible.
Apologies to one Bayless, but Riley had no other choice but to do this.
