With the Florida Gators firing Dan Mullen on Sunday, assistant Greg Knox is taking over as interim head coach.
Some breaking news has arrived out of Florida on Sunday, as the Gators have seen enough and decided to fire Dan Mullen as head coach. The team fell to 5-6 on the year following Saturday’s embarrassing overtime loss to Missouri.
With Mullen no longer running the show, the Gators still need someone to lead the program to close out the season. It has been reported that running backs coach and special teams coordinator Greg Knox will serve as the team’s interim head coach. Florida takes on Florida State next weekend and will be bowl eligible with a win.

Florida fires Dan Mullen after going 1-4 in its last five games
The Mullen firing doesn’t come as a shock at all, with the Gators going 1-4 over the last five games. Now, Knox will be tasked in trying to lead the team over Florida State so they can record victory No. 6 on the season. The program still wants to go bowling.
Interestingly enough, this isn’t the first time that Knox has taken over a team in place of Mullen. Back in 2017, Knox served as interim head coach for Mississippi State after Mullen left the program to take over at Florida.
Knox has more than 30 years of college experience to his name, getting his start in 1989 with Northeastern State in Georgia. He’s been in the SEC since 1995, joining Ole Miss then as its wide receivers coach. He’s since had stints with Auburn, Mississippi State and now Florida.
The Gators opened as 10-point favorites for the regular-season finale against Florida State. It’ll be on Knox to rally his guys to get the win to try and extend their season.
