Jonathan Taylor: Did Colts RB set fantasy football record?
By Mark Powell
Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor’s fantasy owners will be praising him all week, and for good reason.
Taylor scored five touchdowns against the Bills on Sunday, as the Colts shocked all of football by knocking off the team that entered the day as one of the best teams in the AFC. Suddenly, Buffalo is at risk of losing the top spot in the AFC East to the New England Patriots.
Indy got off to a hot start, with Taylor scoring several early touchdowns. The scoring from the Colts running back never relented, as he finished with five scores, just one short of tying an NFL record.
Most touchdowns in a game
The record for the most touchdowns in a single game by a non-quarterback is six, held by Gale Sayers, Dub Jones and Alvin Kamara. Taylor fell one short of that mark, but still had a day most Colts fans will never forget.
Taylor is the leading rusher in the NFL (to this point) for valid reason, as Frank Reich has been riding him all season long with Carson Wentz on the mend for significant periods of time. Heck, even with Wentz healthy, they haven’t been able to fully rely on him.
Most fantasy points in a game
Depending on your league, the record is different. For the sake of this post, we’ll go with PPR. The record for most points in a fantasy football game (thanks to FantasyPros) in 2020 was Tyreek Hill, who had 13 receptions for 269 yards and three touchdowns. That was the most fantasy points by any player in seven years.
The most fantasy points prior to that was Jamaal Charles, who had 59.5 points against the then-Oakland Raiders, per NFL.com.
Before that, we’re not so sure. There have been some truly elite statistical weeks that have gone unrecorded. Taylor had more than 50 on Sunday. That’s…a ton.
