Nobody is happier about the Bears’ Big 12 Championship game victory than Baylor football legend Robert Griffin III.

The Baylor football team won the Big 12 Championship game in dramatic over Oklahoma State, and former Bears star quarterback Robert Griffin III is over the moon about it.

Baylor won a nail-biter that came down to the final play vs. Oklahoma State, 21-16. Cowboys quarterback Spencer Sanders may have thrown four interceptions on the afternoon, but it was Bears safety Jairon McVea who now joins Griffin as a Baylor football legend. He stopped Cowboys running back Dezmon Jackson for no gain on a fourth-and-goal from the one short of the pylon.

With Baylor winning the NCAA Tournament back in April, what a year it has been for the Bears.

Baylor football legend Robert Griffin III is ecstatic over Big 12 Championship win

Griffin mentioned on Twitter Baylor won two games a year ago under first-time head coach Dave Aranda. This included an embarrassing 42-3 loss to Oklahoma State in conference play. Now, the Bears are Big 12 Champions, Aranda is Big 12 Coach of the Year and Baylor might make it into the College Football Playoff the first two-loss team. They have three top-15 victories on the season.

Not only is Griffin commissioning a statue in front of McLane Stadium for McVea, probably next to his own, but he made a point to say defense wins championships in the Big 12 these days. Oklahoma State got to this point because of its incredible defense. Baylor leaned on its defensive-minded head coach to win a conference title bout vs. a top-five team with a backup quarterback.

Overall, Baylor is guaranteed to play in a New Year’s Six bowl. While some Bears fans would be thrilled of getting back to the Sugar Bowl for the second time in three years, they have a case to make the College Football Playoff now. While they would get in as the No. 4 seed, unless more chaos happens, Baylor has forced itself back into the conversation after being on life support.

For now, Griffin and the rest of the Baylor fanbase can celebrate their biggest win in years.
