Oklahoma football has seen their vaunted head coach leave, a recruiting and transfer exodus and now Quinn Ewers is heading to their biggest rivals.

By the standards of recent years, it was a bad season for Oklahoma football as the Sooners fell short of the Big 12 Championship Game and, of course, well short of the College Football Playoff. But things have only gotten worse since losing in Bedlam to clinch their fate.

Of course, Lincoln Riley left abruptly for USC, something many fans are still bitter about. That resulted in a number of high-end recruits decommitting from the Sooners in addition to a number of players transferring. Quarterback Caleb Williams’ future also remains up in the air.

But just when it seemed as if the situation might be getting better after hiring Brent Venables and Jeff Lebby to fill out the coaching staff, OU fans got another dagger right to the heart with vaunted quarterback prospect Quinn Ewers transferring to the rival Texas Longhorns.

Oklahoma football offseason goes from bad to worse with Quinn Ewers transfer

Obviously, the one thing Oklahoma football fans can hang their hats on is that we’ve not seen Ewers play against college competition in any meaningful capacity to this point.

However, with the recruiting pedigree that Ewers carried, he could legitimately be a savior of Texas football, especially with a litany of talented skill position players around him. And with the near future uncertain for the Sooners in their own right, that has to be disconcerting in the biggest way.

Things have always been pretty good in Norman as far as the Sooners are concerned but this offseason has undeniably been a tough one to weather. And the Ewers transfer to the Longhorns isn’t going to allow that to subside just yet.
