Texas football lands Quinn Ewers: Will he start right away?
Steve Sarkisian won a major victory by getting Ohio State quarterback Quinn Ewers to pick Texas football. Where does he fit on the Longhorns depth chart?
Quinn Ewers is heading back home to the state of Texas, according to Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports.
The former No. 1 quarterback recruit put his name in the transfer portal after a season with Ohio State. Thamel reported on Sunday that he’s chosen Texas as his transfer destination. Ewers made the news official later that night.
That’s not exactly a surprise. Ewers was committed to the Longhorns at one point before reclassifying to the class of 2021 and joining the Buckeyes. Steve Sarkisian’s offense was an obvious draw to bring him to Austin.
Will he grab a starting job right away in 2022?
Texas Longhorns QB depth chart
The Longhorns were led by Casey Thompson at quarterback this season. He threw for 2,113 yards and 24 touchdowns. However, his solid numbers didn’t stop Texas from losing seven games.
Texas also turned to freshman quarterback Hudson Card for multiple cameos throughout the season. He had 590 yards and five touchdowns through the air.
The class of 2022 is also set to bring four-star quarterback Maalik Murphy to town.
Despite the presence of those three passers, Ewers will come in with huge expectations. Ewers was one of the highest-rated quarterback prospects in recent memory and Longhorns fans will see him as the future of the program.
He’ll have to win a competition to sit at the top of the depth chart, but he’ll be the favorite to do that.
