Georgia vs. Michigan: Complete history of football matchups
By Ethan Lee
The Georgia Bulldogs and Michigan Wolverines are two of the most prominent college football programs around, but have the two blue bloods ever played each other?
With the way the Georgia Bulldogs and Michigan Wolverines are two of college football’s most prominent programs, it’d be fair to imagine that they’d have faced each other a few times. Either in a bowl game or neutral site meeting to start a season, that’d be reasonable to expect. However, there’s not a ton of history with these two teams meeting.
It has been a very long time since the two have been able to play and it’s only happened twice. To be a little more precise, Georgia and Michigan last met up a little over half a century ago.
Georgia vs. Michigan: Have the Bulldogs and Wolverines ever played each other?
In 1965, Vince Dooley’s second season leading the Bulldogs, Georgia took a trip to Ann Arbor, Michigan to face off against the Wolverines. Even though Georgia had lost the previous trip up north to play against Michigan, this one ended up going a good bit better for the Bulldogs as Dooley was able to go in and guide Georgia to a 15-7 win.
The win was one of the highlights of Georgia’s 1965 season as Michigan was ranked as the No. 7 team at the time. Things got rough for the Bulldogs down the stretch as they ended up losing four of their final six games to end the year at 6-4.
The first time Michigan and Georgia met was eight years prior during the 1957 season. In that game, Michigan hosted the Bulldogs and was able to take care of Georgia without any issue. The Bulldogs were beaten pretty badly as they lost 26-0.
Now the two teams are set to meet for the third time ever. The stakes are pretty high for this matchup that’ll serve as a tiebreaker for the series between Georgia and Michigan.
