Which team holds the record for the most points scored in a Rose Bowl? With the way Utah and Ohio State are scoring, a new record might be set soon.
The Rose Bowl is college football’s most notable and iconic bowl game. It’s the bowl game that sets the standard for this sport. Historically, outside of the national title game, it’s arguably the single most important game that is played in any given season.
So, when someone starts scoring a bunch of points and setting records in this game, it’s definitely worth noting.
The Ohio State Buckeyes and Utah Utes are currently on a tear having scored 56 points in the first half of the 2022 game. That’s a tie for the most points in a half, matching the 2012 contest involving the Oregon Ducks and Wisconsin Badgers.
But there are a few more records to take a look at here.
Oregon’s 59 in 2015 is the most points scored in a Rose Bowl by a team
The most points scored by one team was Oregon when the Ducks beat Florida State 59-20 in 2015. The most points scored by a losing team happened when the Penn State Nittany Lions put up 49 points in a losing effort against the USC Trojans in 2017.
The most points scored in the second half? That was 41 points back in that 2015 game with Oregon and Florida State.
As of right now, the current record for the most points scored by both teams in a Rose Bowl was set by the Georgia Bulldogs and Oklahoma Sooners when they put up 102 combined points in Georgia’s playoff semifinal win in 2018.
However, with the way the Utes and Buckeyes are scoring in 2022, there’s a good chance that the record gets torched this season.
