Bears rumors: Chicago to interview top offensive assistant for head coaching gig
With the Chicago Bears looking for Matt Nagy’s replacement, Byron Leftwich could be the guy to end up landing the job.
Who will end up becoming the next head coach of the Chicago Bears? Folks all over the Windy City can’t wait to find out, and the front office sure is working overtime in conducting interviews and setting them up as well.
One name of intrigue is without question Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich. Well, for folks hoping he gets a serious look, that’s indeed going down. Per NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Leftwich is all set to interview with the team later this week.
Will Byron Leftwich become the new Chicago Bears head coach?
On Monday alone, the Bears completed interviews with top targets Ed Dobbs and Matt Eberflus. Now, Leftwich will be ready to meet with Chicago in the coming days and let them know why he thinks he’s the man for the position.
Leftwich has done wonders ever since taking over the offense for Tampa Bay. While things have been made easy for him having Tom Brady making plays for him, Leftwich is a rising assistant in this league and it only feels like a matter of time before he gets a head coaching gig.
As things stand, Leftwich has a Super Bowl to his name with the Bucs and he’s hoping to bring home his second ring later this winter. For the Bears, they’ve simply got to get this next hire right.
There’s loads of excitement around this team thanks to 2021 first-round pick Justin Fields. With that said, it was a rookie campaign to forget for Fields with Matt Nagy as his leader. Now, the guy to replace Nagy will have to go the extra mile to help develop the signal-caller. We’ll find out soon enough if Leftwich will be given that task.
