The Tennessee Titans may have been robbed of a crucial third-down sack of Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow thanks to a phantom whistle.

The first controversial play of the divisional round came on what should have been a third-down sack of Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow by the Tennessee Titans‘ pass rush.

Cincinnati may have a great passing attack, but the Bengals have arguably the worst offensive line left in the NFL playoffs. Burrow was surely brought down for a massive loss of yardage on a third-down play. However, the Bengals got the benefit from the whistle, as they were flagged for a delay of game. This negated the Titans’ sack, ultimately setting up an Evan McPherson field goal.

This comes a week after the Bengals got a huge boost from the officials on a Burrow touchdown pass vs. the Las Vegas Raiders.

Did the Tennessee Titans get screwed over by the officials on a would-be sack?

It is still incredibly early in the ball game, but this phantom whistle did lead to the Bengals getting on the board first. Of course, the Bengals’ first offensive drive of the game came off a terrible interception by Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill on the first offensive play from scrimmage. All the while, the Tennessee defense has had little issue generating pressure on Burrow in this one.

The winner of this game will take on the winner of the No. 3 Buffalo Bills at the No. 2 Kansas City Chiefs. If Tennessee wins at home, they will host the winner. Should the Bengals get their first road playoff victory in franchise history, they will travel on the road to face either the Bills at Orchard Park or the Chiefs at Arrowhead. The Titans or Bengals will be seen as big underdogs.

Look for this one in Nashville to go down to the wire to set up a great divisional round weekend.
