Dan Quinn returning to Cowboys after failing to land Bears head coaching job
With the Chicago Bears hiring Matt Eberflus as new head coach, Dan Quinn will be returning to the Dallas Cowboys next campaign.
While the Dallas Cowboys were expected to lose defensive coordinator Dan Quinn this offseason to a head coaching position, it looks like things have changed in a big way for him. On Thursday, the Chicago Bears hired Matt Eberflus, while the Denver Broncos agreed to a deal with Nathaniel Hackett.
Quinn had been linked to those openings, while also interviewing with the New York Giants. Now, NFL insider Tom Pelissero is reporting that Quinn won’t pursue other jobs and he’s now set on returning to Dallas next season to try and help this team get back to the Super Bowl.

This news feels like a bit of a surprise, as folks in Arlington were mentally preparing for head coach Mike McCarthy to go out and find himself a new defensive coordinator. Instead, Quinn wasn’t able to land either the Denver or Chicago gig. While the Giants have shown high interest in him, Quinn’s heart appears to be with the reigning NFC East champs.
For Dallas, this team had high expectations going into the postseason. Instead of going on a deep run, the Cowboys suffered an upset loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Wild Card Round. It was a truly disappointing result, with folks trolling the team nonstop for choking once again.
Quinn will now have plenty of fire in his belly to try and help the Cowboys bounce back in a big way next year. While he won’t be leaving the team now, Pelissero did note that Quinn figures to be in the mix for a head coaching job next offseason as well.
