Ball don’t lie: 3 worst calls from Super Bowl 56
By Mark Powell
Super Bowl: Tee Higgins got away with facemask on Jalen Ramsey
Say what you want of Ramsey’s coverage on the play, he was able to catch up just in time to make a play on the ball. Sure, he was a little out of control while attempting to swat the ball, but that doesn’t change the fact that Higgins grabbed his facemask and threw him to the ground.
Were the roles reversed, you know Ramsey would’ve been called for pass interference.
The score changed the momentum of the entire game to start the third quarter. Higgins ran past not just Ramsey, but the entire Rams defense for an easy touchdown. Suddenly, it was the Bengals which looked to have the better odds of winning Super Bowl 56.
So, sure, while it’s easy to look at one holding call on the Rams’ final drive and suggest the game was rigged to Los Angeles’ benefit, we can’t lose sight of the entire picture. The second half of Sunday night’s matchup was poorly officiated. It’s unfortunate to say.
However, that doesn’t mean the Bengals or Rams had an advantage. Los Angeles came out on top in a tightly-contested game. That’s the outcome we all deserved.
