Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns is paying tribute to his mother with his shoes for the 2022 NBA All-Star Game.
Karl-Anthony Towns has gone through a remarkably tough time over the past few years. Towns himself has personally dealt with COVID-19 and he’s lost eight family members because of the virus.
Included among those eight is Towns’ mother, Jacqueline Towns, who died in April 2020.
KAT has been open with the public on a few different occasions about the impact his mother had on his life and how challenging things have been since her passing. It only seems right that during Karl-Anthony would pen a very subtle message to his mom.
Towns placed a brief note on his shoes, one that many might not have been able to spot. Kudos to the folks over at The Athletic for getting their eyes on that.
NBA All-Star Game: Karl-Anthony Towns honors his mother’s memory during All-Star Game
As it turns out, the shoes aren’t the only way Towns has honored his mom’s memory during the NBA’s All-Star Weekend. Thanks to an exception made by the NBA, Towns was able to pay tribute to his mom’s memory during the three-point shooting contest by wearing a chain with her name on it.
It’s great that the NBA was able to make that feasible for Towns to wear. It’s also great to see Towns continue to carry on his mom’s memory and legacy as he continues to thrive in the NBA.
