Twitter users were shocked to find out that the Tennessee Volunteers only received a No. 3 seed in the 2022 NCAA Tournament.
The official bracket for the 2022 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament was revealed on Sunday evening following the conclusion of the Conference Tournaments.
That very day, the Tennessee Volunteers defeated the Texas A&M Aggies to win their first SEC Tournament since 1979, less than 24 hours removed from defeating the Kentucky Wildcats in the semifinals.
Despite those two huge wins, the Volunteers only received a No. 3 seed in the South Region.
Many, whether fans of Tennessee or media members, were stunned that the team did not receive a No. 2 seed in the tournament.
Twitter reacts to Tennessee’s disrespectful seeding in NCAA Tournament
Tennessee being a No. 3 seed and Duke being a No. 2 seed is an absolute joke on every level.

Can’t believe Tennessee gets a No. 3 and Duke gets a No. 2.

Yes I can.
Tennessee is a No. 3 seed.

There are NOT eight better resumes than the Vols’ resume. That’s a mistake.
Tennessee beat Kentucky TWICE and beat Auburn and won the SEC championship, and gets a 3 seed? Change the system now!

Alright... Kentucky is ahead of Tennessee as a two seed? I thought Duke being ahead of them was wrong... That's just flat out wrong.

Make no mistake. The tournament does not come down to the best resumes, it comes down to the best names. If Tennessee had a blue blood name our resume would be a #1 seed 10/10 times. @NCAA a bunch of 🤡.

It’s going to be fun watching Tennessee stroll through the NCAA Tournament as a 3-seed and having everyone wondering why in the world this team wasn’t a higher seed.

So if Tennessee had lost to Kentucky they would have been what, a 6 seed?
— Mark Nagi (@MarkNagi) March 13, 2022
Tennessee was perhaps the talk of the entire Selection Show. The team that did receive the No. 2 seed in the South Region was the Villanova Wildcats, who held a similar 26-7 record and won the Big East Tournament.
As mentioned earlier, the Volunteers were coming off huge wins in the span of 24 hours. They defeated Kentucky 69-62 to advance to the SEC Tournament finals and defeated the Texas A&M Aggies 65-50 to win their first Tournament Championship in over 40 years.
There’s nothing that can be done about the seeding, but the Volunteers can definitely use it as motivation. They open things up against No. 14 Longwood in the first round.
