Devin Lloyd’s versatility stems from playing receiver in high school
Devin Lloyd spoke exclusively with FanSided’s Matt Verderame on Stacking the Box to discuss his preparation for the NFL Draft.
With the NFL Draft right around the corner, standout Utah linebacker Devin Lloyd is ready to see where he’ll be calling home next. The 2021 Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year was a beast for the Utes last season, and he’s a projected first-round pick.
Earlier this week, the 6-foot-3, 235-pound ‘backer joined FanSided’s Stacking the Box and said while he’s a bit anxious about to see where he goes in the draft, he’s fired up to hear his name called.

Devin Floyd’s versatility started at a young age
Because of his outstanding play with Utah, Young is expected to be taken somewhere in the middle of the first round. Last season, he posted a head-turning 111 tackles, eight sacks and four interceptions. Lloyd credits his youth days playing on the offensive side of the ball for really helping him turn the corner on defense.
“When I first started playing ball, I was playing receiver,” Lloyd told FanSided’s Matt Verderame. “It was always attack the ball, find a way to get into the end zone. When I switched over to the defensive side, the mentality was still there. Still attack the ball and find a way to get into the end zone.
“Whenever I have the opportunities to get interceptions or disrupt the throwing game, I just feel like that goes back to my mentality of finding a way to get to the ball.”
Now, Lloyd is ready to make his family proud at the next level. Speaking of his family, Lloyd is proud to say his mom and dad both served in the Navy, which is where they met. Because of that background, Lloyd decided to partner with USAA, Official NFL Salute to Service Partner, ahead of the draft.
USAA and the NFL created the Salute to Service platform to authentically honor and appreciate the military, veterans, and their families. Lloyd didn’t hesitate in joining forces with them.
