The Yankees didn’t spend big money in MLB free agency this offseason, but that only means these five players could be dealt in season.

Plenty of Yankees fans were unhappy with Brian Cashman’s decision not to spend big in free agency this offseason. The upside to that inactivity is that New York is now well-positioned to make a big move via an in-season trade if the right player comes available.

Of course, the Yankees are going to have to part with talent if they want to add an impact player before the MLB Trade Deadline slams shut. There’s plenty of time for Cashman and the team’s front office to consider who is expendable, but several players already appear to be available if a rival team is ready to make a suitable offer.

Yankees fans should read on to discover five players who could easily be trading pinstripes for another uniform in the coming weeks.

5. Ben Rortvedt

In some ways, it’s unfair for Rortvedt to be on this list since an oblique injury has kept him on the Injured List ever since his arrival in an offseason trade with the Twins. On the other hand, the team’s swift move to bring in Jose Trevino ahead of Opening Day has Rortvedt’s place on the 40-man roster in jeopardy.

What the organization decides to do with Rortvedt when he gets healthy should be a huge tell on his status with the front office. If he goes right back on the Major League roster then it’s clear they view him as a platoon partner for Kyle Higashioka. If they try to stash him in Triple-A then it’s a clear signal that he’s available via trade.
