WBA “regular” lightweight champion Gervonta Davis attempts to defend his title against Rolando Romero on May 28. The fight goes down in Brooklyn, NY, at Barclays Center and can be seen on Showtime pay-per-view at 9 p.m. ET.
Davis (26-0, 24 KOs) and Romero (14-0, 12 KOs) are both undefeated power punchers looking to make a boxing legacy. It’s an intriguing matchup that sees Davis as a healthy betting favorite, but many believe that Romero is a live underdog.
Both boxers have talked a lot in the lead-up to this contest, but Romero’s raw assessment of Davis’s skills grabbed the most headlines. They were supposed to fight months ago, but Isaac Cruz replaced Romero after sexual assault allegations were made against Romero.
No charges were filed, and Romero vehemently denied those allegations recently while speaking to FanSided.
Now, the fight is on and is only hours away. Things turned physical between Davis and Romero during yesterday’s weigh-in after Davis gave Romero a shove, which knocked him off the stage.
After a brief spat between both fighters’ teams, things quieted down, and fight day is finally here. Davis has a 92 percent KO rating, and Romero’s is 85 percent, which means there’s a high probability of a knockout.
Will Davis continue as a rising boxing great, or will Romero steal his thunder and change the landscape of the lightweight division?
Ring walks usually take place between 11-11:30p.m ET., so follow along with FanSided starting then to find out.
