Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers are one round away from reaching the Stanley Cup Final. When was the last time they made it to the championship series?

The Edmonton Oilers have never made it past the second round of the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs since they drafted Connor McDavid with the first-overall pick in 2015. That all changed after they defeated the Calgary Flames in five games in the Battle of Alberta.

Now, the Oilers are in the Western Conference Finals, taking on the Colorado Avalanche. Whoever reaches four wins first will clinch their spot in the Stanley Cup Final. The Oilers have won five Stanley Cups in their franchise’s history, but when was the last time they made it to the Stanley Cup Final?

When was the last time the Oilers made it to the Stanley Cup Final?

The last time that the Oilers made it to the Stanley Cup Final was in 2006.

That season, Edmonton got past the Detroit Red Wings, San Jose Sharks and the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim to win the Western Conference Championship. Unfortunately for the Oilers, they lost to the Carolina Hurricanes in seven games.

Edmonton made the Stanley Cup Final seven times in their history, winning five times (1984-85, 1987-88, 1990). The only other time they made the Final and lost was in 1982, where they were swept by the New York Islanders in four games. That was also where the Islanders completed the four-peat, winning the Stanley Cup for the fourth-consecutive season.
