Kevin Durant claps back at Shaq for his endless Rudy Gobert criticism
By Mark Powell
Shaq really doesn’t like Rudy Gobert, and Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant has had enough of it.
Shaquille O’Neal is a regular feature on Inside the NBA, and could even be a threat to buy the Orlando Magic this offseason. The multifaceted big man has adjusted to life after basketball quite well, which makes his commentary on the new generation receiving a hefty payday odd, to say the least.
“You think I’m happy Rudy Gobert is making $250 million? God damn right we mad, we get petty…I think it’s a little bit of truth in our criticism,” O’Neal said.
Durant responded, stating that Shaq is a billionaire in his own right and should not be criticizing a newer generation of players for getting paid.
Shaq clapped back on Twitter, joking around with Durant about his net worth: “I know I’m hilarious, and I’m not a billionaire i’m actually broke. But will always speak facts. Thank you saying i’m funny means a lot,” O’Neal said.
Shaq and Kevin Durant can’t agree on anything
The Shaq and KD beef is the latest example of the old guard disagreeing with a newer generation of players. Neither is necessarily wrong — in Shaq’s day a player like Gobert wouldn’t have received that sort of money.
Yet, thanks to the efforts of both players, the Association has grown and the salary cap has gone up. Players ought to take advantage of that, and it’s not right for Shaq to come after the likes of Gobert or any player for receiving their value on the open market.
