A.J. Pierzynski’s analysis during the Red Sox-Yankees game on Saturday included the silliest take yet on Chris Sale’s minor league blowup.

Chris Sale’s destructive tantrum in the WooSox minor league clubhouse split opinions in the baseball world.

Some laughed it off as Sale being Sale, proving his passion by ripping a television off the wall in an ultimately harmless fit of anger.

Others called out Sale for not having his emotions in check, wrecking a minor league clubhouse then doing the bare minimum to “make up for it.”

As for A.J. Pierzynski, the former White Sox catcher who was on the call during Saturday night’s Red Sox-Yankees game, he decided to blame the media.

“There is so much pressure on athletes and people in the media — not the media, but in sports in general — because of the media that yeah, sometimes we lose it,” Pierzynski said, per Alex Reimer of Audacy.

Professional sports definitely come with pressure. That’s part of the deal that comes with making $20 million per year. Being able to handle that pressure in mature ways is part of the responsibility of a pro. You don’t just get to destroy things in your vicinity and expect people to be okay with that, or even sympathetic.

Twitter let Pierzynski have it for his take and the general tone of his broadcast performance.

While some will continue to let Sale’s behavior slide, his hot-headed nature should be an embarrassment to the Red Sox and baseball in general. Defending him because it’s hard to be a baseball player, like Pierzynski decided to do, is brushing off behavior that wouldn’t be acceptable in any other realm of life.
