Warriors GM makes it clear Golden State is out on Kevin Durant

Golden State Warriors fans should not expect the team to trade for Kevin Durant based off general manager Bob Myers.

Hours before the start of NBA free agency, reports dropped that said Kevin Durant requested a trade from the Brooklyn Nets. Nearly a month since, there has been no movement about a trade being anywhere near close, despite interest from a handful of teams. One of the team’s that was linked to Durant just so happened to be his former team, the Golden State Warriors.

During an interview with NBA.com’s Mark Medina, Warriors general manager Bob Myers basically confirmed that the team is not going to make a trade with the Nets to reunite with Durant.

“We kept most of it together, but we have to stay healthy,” said Myers, h/t NBA.com. “I didn’t think we’d make it last year, but we did. I watch like you do. We’ll see what happens.”

Once the Durant news dropped and nearly broke the internet, there were reports that linked Golden State to the former two-time NBA Finals MVP.

Marc Spears of Andscape reported that the Warriors did have an interest in reuniting with Durant.

Then, Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic noted in his article that while Warriors superstars “did entertain the idea of a reunion” with Durant, they were “fine defending their title with [Andrew] Wiggins, [Jordan] Poole, and the young players they’ve been grooming to win with them.”

Myers’ recent comments back that up. They were able to bring back the majority of their team this offseason, with Gary Payton II and Otto Porter Jr. being the big departures in free agency. Next season they will look to win their fifth NBA championship in nine years.

As for where Durant plays this upcoming, that is anyone’s guess.
