Kevin Durant is reportedly in talks with Golden State Warriors star, but will the team actually pursue a trade for him?

Hours ahead the start of NBA free agency on July 1, reports circulated that Kevin Durant had requested a trade from the Brooklyn Nets. Now, the NBA world waits to see which team will be able to give the Nets the best offer for Durant. Could one of those teams be the defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors.

Andscape’s Marcus Spears reported that the Warriors had an interest in a reunion with Durant, who joined the team back in 2016. According to Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic, Warriors superstars have had conversations with Durant, saying that they were “catching up” and they “did entertain the idea of a reunion.”

Despite talks between Kevin Durant-Warriors stars, a reunion is ‘highly unlikely’

Don’t get too hopeful Warriors fans, because the report continues.

Thompson noted that multiple sources in the organization told him that a reunion is “highly unlikely.” Thompson says that “nothing about the last three years suggests the Warriors would be willing to pay the price for a KD return.”

Regarding the Warriors stars, Thompson writes that they are not “pressing the front office to go acquire Durant,” and that sources have said that “they are fine defending their title with [Andrew] Wiggins, [Jordan] Poole, and the young player they’ve been grooming to win with them.”

As for who actually acquires Durant, that will be up to the Nets. They are looking for the best return possible, understandably so, for one of the best players in the entire NBA. Reports have indicated that Durant has the Phoenix Suns and Miami Heat as his preferred destinations. Another team who has emerged as a potential Durant landing spot is the Toronto Raptors.

Which team will Durant play for in the 2022-23 season? We will just have to wait for the official confirmation of a trade, whenever that happens.
