Cubs break down rivalry walls to honor Albert Pujols, Yadier Molina

The Chicago Cubs took the high road in their rivalry with the St. Louis Cardinals and took a moment to honor the legendary Albert Pujols and Yadier Molina. 

“We can’t say we’ll miss you.”

Honest to the end, the Chicago Cubs reflect on what it’s been like to be terrorized by Albert Pujols and Yadier Molina all these years.

Even though Pujols and Molina have made in Chicago difficult at times, game recognizes game. That’s why the Cubs made sure they honored Pujols and Molina for their last game together at Wrigley Field.

“You tormented us for two decades to earn this honor,” the team tweeted as they congratulated them on storied careers.

“We know you’ll remember Wrigley Field fondly,” they continued in the spirit of good gamesmanship.

In addition to honoring them on the field, the Cubs announced that they would make a charitable donations to the Pujols Family Foundation and Foundation 4 “in honor of Albert and Yadi’s charitable efforts off the field.”

At no other time would there be friendly displays of Pujols and Molina on Wrigley’s big screens, but the two have contributed so much to the game and to the NL Central. Pujols and Molina won World Series with the Cardinals in 2006 and 2011, and even though the Cubs won as recently as 2016, it doesn’t mean that Albert and Yadi have made it easy for them over the years.

In fact, Pujols and Molina are tormenting Chicago right now. The Cardinals lead the division 72-53, while the Cubs nearly have an identical record in reverse: 54-71.

The Cardinals ended their five-game series against the Cubs 3-2, with an 8-3 ballgame to wrap up the historic rivalry for Pujols and Molina.

Although they’ll be gone this season, they retire as two of the greatest to ever do it — and sadly, they did most of it at Wrigley.
