Nebraska football fans are ready to turn to Urban Meyer
By John Buhler
Nebraska football fans have turned their attention to Urban Meyer becoming their next savior.
With things going absolutely terrible for Scott Frost in year five, Nebraska football fans are done with the former Cornhuskers quarterback leading their program, as they have turned their attention to none other than Urban Meyer.
Desperate times call for desperate measures. This is where the proud Nebraska fanbase finds itself after losing another stupid one under Frost’s watch, this time to Northwestern over in Ireland. Cornhusker fans have taken to message boards to express not only their displeasure of Frost leading the way going forward but to make it abundantly clear that they want Meyer now!
From Meyer, to Dave Aranda, to Luke Fickell, to whoever was Trev Alberts’ roommate in Lincoln back in the day, Nebraska fans want some dang changes.
Watch Alberts pry former Husker Craig Bohl away from serious altitude over in Laramie, Wyoming.
Nebraska football fans want Urban Meyer to lead the Huskers out of the tunnel
Look. Nebraska will have to move off Frost if Nebraska wants to get back to being Nebraska again. Not to say the Cornhuskers can ever get back to being a national power like they were in the old Big Eight, or before leaving the Big 12, but this program can return to Bo Pelini levels of 9-3 and expansive Citrus Bowl opportunities. As far as hiring Meyer, it will be entertaining as all hell.
For Nebraska to be respectable once again, the Cornhuskers need to pattern themselves after programs like Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan State and Tennessee. Recruit both regional and nationally to help field a roster than can win eight games with greater regularity. For any and all detractors of Meyer, he is an elite recruiter above all else. He would bridge this gap considerably.
While Meyer is a midwestern guy who has won at all four stops in college, people are never going to forget the unmitigated disaster of epic proportions that was his embarrassing run “leading” the Jacksonville Jaguars. Meyer may win prolifically, but he may also retire on you in the blink of an eye, while bringing questionable people into the building, players, coaches and what have you…
No doubt about it, Meyer would transform Nebraska football from a national laughingstock into a Big Ten West behemoth seemingly overnight. The Cornhuskers will win games and be a force to be reckoned with. However, that will come with a price. Meyer won’t last a decade in Lincoln, and the Cornhusker faithful will have to deal with the consequences of bankrupting their souls soon after.
Meyer would make Nebraska better overnight, but is the juice worth the squeeze for the Huskers?
