One Nebraska football watch party had a sad reaction to Casey Thompson’s game ending interception against Northwestern.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers fanbase remained hopeful that the team could pick up a huge season-opener win. They faced off against the Northwestern Wildcats in Dublin, Ireland for the Week 0 opener. The best case scenario was for the team to win, for head coach Scott Frost’s sake.

Nebraska actually held a 28-17 lead in the third quarter, but subsequently squandered it. Down 31-28 and pinned at their own four yard line, the Cornhuskers looked to make a push for a tie at minimum. Unfortunately, the game ended for Nebraska on the fourth play after quarterback Casey Thompson’s pass was deflected, leading to an interception.

It was quite the way to lose the game. Frost decided after taking a 28-17 lead that they should go for an onside kick. The move, as expected, failed miserably. Northwestern scored five plays on a three-yard touchdown run by Cam Porter to cut Nebraska’s lead to 28-24.

The Wildcats then took the 31-28 lead in the fourth quarter on a four-yard run by Evan Hull.

It was another crushing loss for the Cornhuskers fanbase, this time coming in the first game of the 2022 season. they will look to get their first win of the season against the North Dakota Fighting Hawks on Sept. 3.
