3 NFL quarterbacks who deserve to be benched: Joe Flacco

A repeat offender on this list, Joe Flacco simply isn’t an NFL starting quarterback anymore. Outside of a dramatic two-minute victory last week, the New York Jets haven’t looked competent under Flacco, who is squandering a litany of offensive weapons in their 1-2 start.

The Jets’ offensive line did no favors for Flacco, particularly as its offensive tackles devolved into turnstiles by the end of the game, but Flacco wasn’t good regardless. Flacco completed 28-of-52 passes for 255 yards, an average of just 5.5 yards per play, and threw a pair of interceptions on the afternoon.

The Cincinnati Bengals sacked Flacco four times as the veteran statue showed no sign of pocket awareness. Flacco also made some poor decisions when he had time, bypassing open receivers to attempt throws that had a higher degree of difficulty, which predictably led to an offense that had to settle for four field goal attempts.

Zach Wilson is reportedly doing well in his rehab from knee surgery and could be ready to go for the Jets’ trip to Pittsburgh in Week 4. Even if Wilson needs more time, however, Flacco should be benched as Mike White can’t do much worse at this point.
