Week 1 wasn’t filled with a ton of great quarterback play but these three signal-callers deserve to get benched before Week 2.

The NFL regular season is underway and there wasn’t a ton of inspiring quarterback play around the league. On a day where Mitchell Trubisky and Marcus Mariota were among the most efficient passers, there were plenty of bad performances to go around.

While there is certainly a case to be made that Joe Burrow deserved a benching after turning the ball over four times in the first half, there is simply no reality where Cincinnati will pull the plug on their franchise quarterback. Let’s take a look at three other QBs who deserve to be benched after their pitiful Week 1 performances.

3. Jared Goff

The Lions were America’s darlings after their Hard Knocks appearance this summer with many fans expecting a big leap from Dan Campbell’s team. One critical factor that was often ignored is the fact that Detroit doesn’t really have a capable quarterback as Jared Goff continues to underwhelm with an improved supporting cast.

After building an early lead on the strength of their running game, the Lions asked Goff to attack the Philadelphia secondary to extend it. Goff was not up to the task, averaging just 5.8 yards per attempt and failing to make enough impact plays to help Detroit pull off the upset.

The problem for Detroit is that they don’t have a great alternative as Nate Sudfeld is a journeyman who was just added to the roster at the end of training camp. The Lions are likely stuck with Goff for now, which could limit this team’s ceiling in a year where some experts made them a trendy sleeper pick.
